statements that are binding to various degrees within their varied groupings. This book is a study of theology through all three of these lenses. It is an analysis of individual theologians, such as Anselm or Wesley; it is the study of the teachings of particular groups (that is, doctrine); and it is the study of the authorized, creedal statements of various traditions in the Christian community (dogma). It is impossible to separate these terms in any survey of what the church has taught.
